Tryhard means someone is trying way too hard, usually in games or online, to the point it feels like they forgot it is supposed to be fun. Think “sweaty,” “meta only,” and “why are you sweating in casual mode,” even though they technically are the one showing up with all the effort. Basically, it is a backhanded compliment with extra annoyance.
