“Sample” online usually means “a small test or taste” of something, like trying a song before buying the whole album, or showing a quick snippet to see if people like it. In music culture it also literally means borrowing a tiny piece of an existing track and using it in a new one, which is basically the internet’s way of saying, “I made art, but I stole one note and called it inspiration.”
