enshittification

👴

Enshittification is when a service you used to like slowly gets worse on purpose, usually by adding more junk, ads, fees, and friction, while pretending it is improving. Cory Doctorow coined it to describe the pattern of platforms degrading as companies chase profit instead of users. It is basically the customer experience equivalent of, “We had a good thing, so now let us monetize it into dust.”
